Let’s talk about the three types of peonies. First, the Tree Peony. With its woody stems and early, blooms, it adds presence to the garden. It doesn’t die back in winter and becomes more impressive with age. Don’t we all. Not the best cut flower, but she blooms first so squeeze one in somewhere. Next is the Herbaceous Peony, the most common. It dies back each fall, then returns faithfully each spring with big, often full fragrant blooms, some more than others.
