James Mooney on Instagram: "Commonly called "Keokuk" geodes after a town in Iowa that is a part of this trend, these are from what is called the Warsaw Formation. It's a Mississippian aged formation that is geologically quite interesting. I find geodes, chalcedony replaced coral fossils and much more in the formation. It's where Missouri, Illinois, and Iowa all meet. Geodes from this locality tend to be clear or milky quartz with some more uncommon exceptions."

Geodes like this are sedimentary in origin and form in Mississippian aged rock. They can be quartz lined, calcite, and rarely pyrite or other minerals."
