In 1805, Sacagawea just a teenager and a new mother joined the Lewis and Clark expedition with her infant son. Carrying and caring for him along the journey, she also served as an interpreter, guide, and symbol of peace across nearly 5,000 km of unforgiving terrain. Her knowledge and courage were crucial in leading the expedition through the Rocky Mountains.
